Our Road Trip

When we went to Hamilton, Missouri on our road trip, we were celebrating my daughter-in-law's birthday. She, her 10 year old, and I set off for our adventure of the day about 8:30 in the morning. We wanted to go to the Missouri Quilt Shop in there. The pictures that you are going to see is what my grandson took of our trip. He wanted something to do and that kept him busy while we shopped.  Besides the main store they have six other shops full of fabrics. A must see of all of the fabrics.
Of course we had to have a picture of him. He took so many pictures that you would have been tired of just looking at what caught his eye. I don't know if it is a good thing or not to turn him loose, but he had fun and that is the main thing. We parked the car in about the middle of all the shops that we wanted to go to and started walking. They are very friendly and have no problems with you taking pictures in their shops. There is so much to see.
He thought that we should have a picture of the main store and the rest of the pictures are of different quilts, windows, and things that he thought I needed to have of our trip. Of course, you had murals on buildings and one that really caught my eye was the quilts that was in the painting. It looked as though they were hanging outside. A beautiful painting. I think there is a picture that I will post later.
This was in the window of one of the shops. It was cool how the fabric was draped around the manikin and made you almost think of a wedding dress. The skirt was all strips of fabric flowing down. He thought is was cool and I did too. You could find all kinds of fat quarters if you wanted just a small portion of material. They do not cut less then a yard. He got to pick out material for a new pillowcase.
You saw several of these carts holding fabric squares or full of fat quarters. Their solid colors went from dark to light and one shop had a lot of backing materials for your quilts. If you couldn't find what you wanted, you didn't look hard enough. One shop was Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween fabrics. The pictures coming up are some of the things that caught his eye.
We also went to the JC Penny Museum while we were there. I highly recommend that you take the time to go through. It is a free will donation so it only cost what you want to give. The Farmhouse which is also located in Jamesport  has a shop there. I didn't look around much because of the odor from all of the candles which you had a lot to choose from. One place we went they had like a community room where you could take your machine and spend the day sewing with others.

After we left there, we stopped at the Country Cabin Country which is  buildings with different things in each. Those pictures will be for another post.

We ate lunch in Jamesport at the Amish restaurant. The food was really good. I had a half hot roast beef sandwich which was all that I could eat. I would hate to say how big a whole one would be.
We went to the bakery and grocery store while we were there. It wasn't as busy as it would have been on a Saturday. We also went to the shop that they make harnesses. We were looking for needles to hand sew leather being dad had to repair my oldest grandson's saddle that broke. He gave us a scare, but Cleo and him nether got hurt for which we were thankful for those blessings. The saddle is fixed we just need the rain to stop.

I thought I would let you know that I was still here just been busy. I have about two and a half weeks then school will be starting for the boys then I will have more time.

I am sorry for the long post, but if you are in the neighborhood of Hamilton, Missouri and you like to quilt and sew. It  is a place to stop.  Hope all is well with you all and I will be back.

Spending My Time

This is the two boys that I am spending my summer at their house so that when big brother goes to work I am there for ornery as I call him. When you see his little blue eyes sparkle, you know that he is up to something, but you just don't know what. The first picture was taken at Pony Camp where they learned about the Indians. They put a program on for the parents and grandparents the last day of school. The volunteers were dressed in Indian costumes and went by Indian names. All of the kids had names and he had a lot of fun. I took him and then went and picked him up at the end of the day. It was a good thing when they had it  was cooler. We had a heat index was in the triple digits today. I stayed home in the air condition.
My little cowboy in his new shirt, hat,and tie. He wanted to catch the judges eye. All the girls eyed him when they walk by. I took him and my youngest grandson to the movies. A little girl was sitting on the other side of her mom and made her move so that she could set by him. I think he really wanted to change seats, but I was setting in the middle. We went to see Dolphin Tales 2. All it takes is a can of food each for the food bank and where can you go to the movies that cheap. After the movies, then we went to Culver's for lunch. I took the boys to my daughter's house and ended up spending most of the afternoon with her talking. I would like for you to say prayers for her with everything that is going on in her life. Pray that Tuesday brings good results for her and what is happen.
That is all that she will let me say at the present time. I just know this hasn't been  good year for them, but hope that it gets better.
My oldest grandson and Juliet got a first place with his palomino. Some wasn't happy about it. She did a beautiful job doing what he needed, but she is only three years old. I saw him go off of her last night. He didn't get hurt and got back on her and rode. He worked her for over a hour. He has been putting up hay. He gave us a scare when his saddle broke on his gaming horse. They were doing team of two barrels. It was a good thing she kept bumping into his partners horse while he was trying to get her under control. He didn't hit the fence and he has his saddle fixed ready to go for the next ride. His dad and him repaired it their self. One of the other dads told them how he fixed his saddle when it did the same thing. He got a learning experience of who not to work for again putting up hay. He only got paid part of his money and told him he would get the rest the next time he worked for him. That is not the way to treat kids if you want them to work in the heat.
My little cowboy warming up his horse he is showing right now. The horse had three different riders on her. Her owner's daughter who is my oldest grandson's age and a little girl who is younger so she really got a workout.
I hope that you all are staying cool and dry. We lucked out this last time, an area to the north of us had over 9 inches of rain plus a tornado. The rivers are out again so you have to be careful how you go if you have to cross any of the three. Just be safe and I will try to pop in and out. Take care.

4th is over

Did you all survive the 4th of July? Does the fireworks start early in your neighborhood? The smoke was so thick in the air when I came home on the 4th with all of the fireworks that went off. You didn't need to shoot them off yourself, just observe what was being shot off around you. The kids were concerned about how Juliet would react, but didn't seem to bother her at all.
Did you get storms in your area last night? We had one go through early afternoon that caused scattered tree limbs down, flash flooding and some scattered electricity outage. You would be amazed at the people who tried to drive through the flooding  water. The one in front of one made it so they thought that they could do it too, but it didn't work. The aquatic park parking lot was flooded.  Cars were sitting in it.
My oldest did the grand entry at the horse show. He found out he was doing it right before the show started. He didn't have time to change clothes. He did a good job and that was all that mattered.
I thought I would show you a picture of the horse that my middle grandson is showing this summer. She belongs to his 4h/riding instructor and she is letting him use her. They have bonded really well. He is anxious to show because he has a new show outfit. They sent me a picture on my phone and I don't know how to down-load it to my computer.
We are suppose to have two shows this weekend, but I don't know if it will happen or not with getting over three inches of rain yesterday and they say we can get some more tonight, tomorrow and the next day. I am hoping to get pictures of him this weekend, but will have to wait and see.
I thought I would show you a picture of the latest baby quilt that I finished. My hands have to keep busy. This week I have been taking my middle grandson to pony camp at our Pony Express Museum. They are learning about the Indian's. They are learning history that they would not learn in school.
I do know that I ate to much over the weekend. If you went away hungry it was no body's fault but your own. My daughter made a red, white and blue bunt cake that my youngest decorated. It was really yummy. We had lots of food and then the following night I went to my son's house for barbecue ribs. smashed potatoes, cucumber and onions, relishes, and salad. The ribs were yummy.
The blue birds is my latest tea towel that I got done. It has blue stripe down the side of the tea towel.
I just thought I would let you know  about whats been happening at my house. Stay safe because mother nature can really be nasty. Take care.\
