Stormy Weather

Another other of my tea towels that I have finished.  I have started a new lap quilt which will be a little while before it is ready. I take and do other things instead of working entirely on one project. I will be spending time at the doctor's office so I will be taking something with me. I have to keep the hands busy while I am there. We will be having family coming in May for my sister's 50th anniversary party, then two weeks later my great niece's wedding which would make it her granddaughter. Some of the family I haven't seen for awhile. I just told my husband he can't be sick.
This weekend has been very stormy with the tornado's all around us. We  have been lucky so far, but the weather channel has us right in the middle of  it so we may not be so lucky. It isn't suppose to reach us until 10 o'clock which makes it the worse because it will be dark. I don't like them, but the lightening is worse because I haven't forgot when it struck the house. We lost several appliances in that one. We shut the electricy off on the inside and it went off on the outside. I don't sleep good when that happens.

We had one storm moved through this afternoon. It was raining so hard that you couldn't see the next door neighbor's house which is just across our drive way. It will help the flowers if we don't have the hail. Hopefully we won't. We are going to have rain Monday, Wednesday, Thursday of this week hopefully we have some sunshine in there someplace.  They were suppose to start the kid's new garage this week. They have the old one all torn down from the fire.

Have a wonderful week.

Blue Party

The blue in my house is the blue projects that I have been working on and finished. Eeyore is one of my favorites mainly because of the stories that I read to my children growing up and then to my grandchildren. My latest creation isn't quite done, but it is a blue tea towel with an old fashion coffee grinder and coffee cup on it. There is my blue bird tea
towel. My new project is a lap quilt called Play Ball. The ball players uniforms are red and blue. I hope you enjoy looking at what I do.

Spring Weather

The boys are very special . Jacob in the red sweatshirt is my oldest grandson who will be 10 in June. Ethan in the red hat will be 4 in August and Matt in the dark blue will be 5 in October. The se were taken Easter Sunday. Both boys had buckets full of Easter Eggs and had so much fun playing.
Today has been a slow moving day after my husband's cousin wedding last night. The day turned out to be a beautiful day after a rainy start. She made a very pretty bride and we got to visit with family from California, Hiawai, and closer to home. Some we hadn't seen for quite a while as the saying goes anymore you see them at weddings or funerals. People don't get together like they use to. Every body seems to be to busy and in a hurry.
We took a scenic tour this afternoon while the weather was sunny and nice. You needed a sweater, but that was o.k. We went up to Clarinda, Iowa, cutting across to Bedford, Iowa before coming home. The farmers are starting to work in the fields, and the trees are budding out with some color. I would like to go see the Dog Woods in South Missouri, but it isn't possible at the moment. We have to many weddings, 50th wedding anniversary, and 50th class reunion that doesn't include the birthdays or graduations.
You get to see the Amish planting their crops the old fashion way with a team of horses. I can remember when my dad farmed that way. You remember the old fashion 4th of July celebrations, the small town country fairs, taking your embroidery work, or a quilt that you made to be judged. The food that you use to eat that they now say you can't do. We never got sick. I, also, remember the outside movies that we would go and watch. You set on your blankets in the grass. It was also a time to get together with your family, friends, and neighbors. Now everybody is just to busy.
Our street has been closed because of putting in some new concrete drains, and etc. It has been rather nice to have the peace and quiet. It doesn't sound like a race track.
We are suppose to have warm weather this week. I have been trying to decide if I want to plant some flowers. That will be for another day.

HAPPY EASTER

I wanted to take a moment to wish all of my friends Happy Easter. It is a day to spend with family and friends. It may be a rainy day, but the kids don't care where they get to hunt the Easter Eggs as long as they get to do it. I am sitting here listing to the thunder and rain as I write this.
We have the traditional ham and turkey for most holidays, but this year it was decided that we are going to have grilled pork chops. It doesn't have to be summer to enjoy cooking on the grill. It doesn't matter if it is hot dogs or hamburgers, there is just something about the flavor from the grill. We have prepared the whole meal using the grill to do the ears of corn, baked potatoes, or the hobo pocket as I call it with carrots, onions, potatoes, and whatever else you want to put in it.
Of course, you can never forget the desert. One of the favorite's for the boys is the cake shaped like an Easter Bunny using two round layer cake pans. They like the jelly beans that are used for his eyes, nose and mouth.
I was sent this e-mail that I would like to share with you. It is called Makin Pancakes
Six year old Brandon decided one Saturday morning to fix his parents pancakes. he found a big bowl and spoon, pulled a chair to the counter, opened the cupboard and pulled out the heavy flour cannister, spilling it on the floor. He scooped some of the flour into the bowl with his hands, mixed in most of a cup of milk and added some sugar, leaving a floury trail on the floor which by now had a few tracks of his kitten. Brandon was covered with flour and getting frustrated. He wanted this to be something very good for mom and dad, but it was getting very bad. He didn't know what to do next, whether to put it all in the oven or on the stove and he didn't know how the stove worked! Suddenly he saw his kitten licking from the bowl of mix and reached to push her away, knocking the egg carton to the floor. Frantically he tried to clean up this monumental mess but slipped on the eggs, getting his pajamas white and sticky. And just then he saw Dad standing at the door. Big crocodile tears well up in Brandon'e eyes. All he wanted to do was something good, but he'd made a terrible mess. He was sure a scolding was coming, maybe even a spanking. But his father just watched him.
Then, walking through the mess, he picked up his crying son, hugged him and loved him,. getting his own pajamas white and sticky in the process. That's how God deals with us. We try to do something good in life, but it turns into a mess. Our marriage gets all sticky or we insult a friend, or we can't stand our job, or our health goes sour. Sometimes we just stand there in tears because we can't think of anything else to do. That's when God picks us up, loves us and forgives us, even though some of our mess gets all over Him. But just because we might mess up, we can't stop trying to "make pancakes" for God or for others. Sooner or later we'll get it right, and then they'll be glad we tried. I was thinking...... and I wondered if I had any wounds needing to be healed, friendships that need rekindling or three words need to be said, sometimes, " I love you" can heal and bless. The little boy made me think of my own middle grandson Matt who is always there helping to cook standing on his chair at the counter and it can get messy, but we love them anyway. You have a wonderful weekend.

Crazy Weather

We have had the craziest weather in our neck of the woods. Rain, thunder, lighting, sleet, and snow with the sun coming out later in the day. We aren't as bad as some as some with the drifts or tornadoes.
I found the picture when I was surfing and I thought it was so cute and appropriate for Easter which is less then a week away.
We decided to do gift cards to Border's so the boys could go shopping. They are at the age where they like to pick out their own books and video's. They each have their own that they like which is different so when they go to each others houses they have something new to read. I keep books for them to look at in the car to help entertain them. The younger two both like the Walt Disney Cars books. They are looking forward to helping color the Easter Eggs. Of course they do them different then we did when we were growing up. I can remember making a hole in them and blowing the yolk and white out to use them. We had to be extra careful so that we didn't break them. The teacher thought that would be more challenging. After Easter, we would use just the shell breaking it and using it in our art project to see what we could make with the colors. It was always interesting.
We have our school levy and bond election tomorrow, which is a very touchy subject. They want to take the sunshine clause out on the levy. Right now they must put it before the people every 5 years. They want to build two new schools. People just don't think the time is appropriate with so many people unemployed. Even our hospital is talking of outsourcing some of the work and cutting jobs. You just never know who or what will be next. I haven't made up my mind for sure. I sorta lean toward keeping the sunshine law, because we don't know what will happen in 5 years. It is hard to even know what tomorrow will bring.
Bedtime has come so I must stop because tomorrow is another work day. I was only gone last Friday, but you would have sworn I had been gone a week with the things that they wanted done. Good Night

Sunshine

Today we had sunshine and actually warmed up after the rain, sleet, and snow yesterday. You couldn't really tell it by the time that we got to go home. I was told today when we went to see the dietitian that we lived in a weird city because of our weather. We are suppose to hit 70 tomorrow and then go back in the 20's on Monday.
I got my lab work done today to make sure the new medicine is working and not causing other problems. I got asked a strange question. They wanted to know if I took an aspirin a day. I told them that I don't, but it made me wonder why they asked. I know the vials really filled fast. Who knows.
I took the day off being we had to go to the city. I hadn't told any of the kids that we had appointments so I got a phone a call wanting to know where we were at, and if everything was o.k. I normally tell one of them, but I guess I didn't this time. We got home early enough that we went to one of our favorite restaurants the Frederick Inn for a home style lunch. I had chicken and dumplings yummy good. I saw who cuts our hair there and he could work us in the afternoon so we did that. We took the scenic route as I call it home after my experience this morning. I was in rush hour traffic so you have to get in the lane that you want when you can and stay there because they do not let you in. Well I had this idiot who evidently didn't think I was driving fast enough pull in front of me and put on their brakes where I came to almost a complete stop. I guess they thought I should have been in the other lane. We were doing 60 in a 55. They didn't want in the lane I was in anyway. They sure could have caused a multi-car pile up. I thought maybe they were late to work and should have left earlier. I have been going there for over ten years and sometimes having to drive in rush hour traffic and I had never had anything like that happen to me before. A couple of times we came to a complete stop because of the traffic being so heavy. I always try to make my appointments so that we could be on the back side of the rush hour traffic. It didn't work today that is for sure.
I like taking two lane highways when possible because you don't have the traffic, plus they are starting to work on our main four lane highway. You can get hung up in traffic when they are doing that.
I am going to enjoy another day of sunshine and hopefully the weatherman will be wrong.
