CRAZY THINGS HAPPENING

This has really been a week for things happening in our town. We had a woman kidnapped from where she worked and taken to a motel and held hostage for over ll hours in a standoff with the police.
It caused a major highway to be shut down and rerouted through town. I knew something was wrong when I got to the light and saw all of the semi's. Then they had another street closed and I thought that was strange. When the highway is shut down you always think it was a bad accident. We have had so many of those on I-29 this year. The same day we had a stabbing and they locked down schools and closed some more streets. Thankfully everything ended peacefully with both who committed the crimes being arrested.
What do you do about bullying that is in our schools? There was a case of a fight involving 11-12 year old girls on a school playground that went viral on fb. It happened on school property while school was not in session. The one girl was arrested for it. What kind of punishment should happen? Would you be embarrassed if that was your child? Being it is involving a juvenile we probably won't know the outcome, but her name was on fb. What the mother said makes you wonder what kind of life she has at home.  Do you feel the schools should be addressing the bullying that happens at school  more?  Do you think kids should fight back or what kind of punishment if the parent refuses to address the issue?
It really makes you wonder where the parents are and if they really care about their child or did they encourage it. It also makes you wonder when people are going to take responsibility for their actions.
I was close to where the standoff was happening without realizing it. I would have changed my route had I known that it was happening. Ever since the two robbery attempts at our Mall's one area parking lot, I am very aware of my surroundings and observant of what is going on around me. I want to know why we are having all of these problems. Is it because of all of the violence shows on tv or people don't want to work and take the easy way out.
The sun is shining, but it hasn't warmed up that much. Hopefully it warms up more this afternoon. Some areas not to far off had almost freezing temperatures. I would like to see the first frost so that it would help people with allergies, but then warm back up.
Just got a phone call to take care of so I will bring this to a close. Take care.

You know what Shirley? Not everyone would agree with me, but I truly believe it all is from the break down of the family. Parenting is NOT what it used to be at all.

I think your local Police over-reacted to these situations even though the stabbing and the kidnapping are both serious crimes. Things similar to this happen here and they are handled well with little disturbance to anyone. Crimes are still solved.
Regarding the bullying, I agree with Vickie who has posted a comment here. And I think the clues are in the comments the mother of the girl made. I have worked with children for many years. When a child is a bully it is an indicator of something wrong at home - always. Give the victim lots of help because she will be victimised many more times in the future. The bully has groomed her to be a victim, just like paedophiles groom their victims. Today's television shows and films actively teach people to bully. Watch and listen to the comments made by sports broadcasters for instance. They use nasty words.
Hopefully the bully will not grow up to be a kidnapper or to stab someone.
I am glad you spoke up on both these issues. More good people should speak up when bad things happen. Staying silent endorses bad behaviour.

Life is scary! It's always a good thing to be cautious! I, too, agree! Parents are not parenting any more. Not ALL parents, to be sure. But by all large......

Hi Shirley
I can't comment on my thinking of what the reason is for these things happening. I do know that they have ALWAYS happened, but with the news, internet and social media we just hear more about them.

How scary for all of that to happen in your home town. I hope the kidnap victim is ok. Everything seems to be getting worse and worse. As far as the bullying goes, the schools can have as many meetings as they want to inform the parents but if only the parents that are really caring and talking/listening to their children attend nothing will change. Some parents are not meant to be parents, they don't know what it really means.

Shirley, It's getting to be a crazy world. I think when young people miss behave...the parents need to meet with the judge and possibly be fined if there isn't any thing medically wrong with the kids. That might make parents more responsible for their own children. I can tell you growing up we would never have been trouble for our parents and my daughter's knew the rules. Children need rules at home too, without order(rules) you have chaos....or delinquency. Take care, be safe. xoxo,Susie

Wow! You had some excitement in your town! I was bullied in high school and know first hand how hard it is for kids. We can't blame the parents all of the time because no matter what they do, some kids are just mean!

That poor woman who was kidnapped, what a horrible experience for her. And yes bullying should be addressed more in school even though I think school are trying. Social media is such a curse for everyone I think especially those in middle school and high school where things can get out of control very quickly.
Hugs to you,
Meredith

Stay safe. So sad that these terrible things go on. Wish they could find good things to share on the news and maybe more people would follow...
