I did it I did it.

I did it. I actually walked down to the dining hall with my walker and set in a normal chair this morning with physical therapy. It felt so good to be out of the wheelchair for a change. I go to the doctor tomorrow to see the progress that I have made and what our next step will be. I will find out about whether we are replacing the knee or not. The two surgeries have been just getting my leg ready so the knee would have something to rest upon. I, also did 1035 steps on the nu-step machine this morning. My leg is a little sore which I knew it would be with everything that I did. You don't know how much you can do unless you try to do it.
My grandson and his horse Hot Rod technical name is Don't scratch my hot rod. They have really bonded in a short period of time. He showed him at State in Sedalia, Missouri bringing home an 8th place ribbon in showmanship. He looked so grown up. He went to the American Royal in Kansas City, Missouri placing 4th in one of his English Equation class. He has been riding Englis for a little over a month. I am so proud of his accomplishments. I got to go watch him ride this past weekend. I was exhausted when they brought me back to my apartment, but it was an enjoyable day.

Both of the younger two grandsons are trying band. Matt percussions and Ethan the trumpet. I don't know if they will like it or not, but they have to try and see how they like it. My family will be coming to where my studio apartment is where we have a room reserved. It will be the last time seeing my oldest for a while. He is going to the John Deere Technical School in Milford, Nebraska. He wants to work on farm equipment
Hubby is doing as well as can be expected. It is hard to him because I am doing things that he can't-do because his one leg does not support him. Plus they don't really try to work with him and let him try to put weight on it and take some steps. Of course. it will hurt, but that is to expected. I have worked very hard to get to where I am and proud of my accomplishments, It has taken encouragement from other people to help me along the way. I admit there have been times I just wanted to tell them to go away, but I didn't because of what I wanted to be able to do again. Take care

Praise the Lord, Shirley. I am so proud of you and how hard you have worked to get to where you are. I am glad you got to see the horse show but sorry you were so tired afterwards. I feel sorry for your hubby. I am sure it is a disappointment to him to be in the shape he is in and knowing he will probably not be able to walk again. That's a hard thing to adjust to when you know it is long term.

I know you will miss your grandson but I know you are proud of him, too, for going off to a school that will teach him a trade. Really good mechanics are few and far between...and I bet he will be great at it.

I hope you continue to get better day by day by day. Love to you- xo Diana

I am so, so sorry that I missed your last post that told of your accident and surgeries. My heart is breaking, Shirley. You do sound uplifted, Small steps are huge steps. Are you still in the apartment? And how is your husband health wise?

I was so happy to see your comment and now I feel terrible for not having stayed in touch. Take care of yourself, get well, and think of yourself for a bit!!!

Love and hugs,

Jane xxx

Yay, Shirley! I am so proud of you and you have every reason to be proud of what you've accomplished, too. I'll be praying for continued improvements for you and praying for your hubby. Your grandson did well at the horse show and I know he was happy that you were there to see him. Take good care of yourself and know we're all pulling for you to get better. Hugs, Cheryl

Hi Shirley, not sure if you'll remember me...I used to have the Blog Lilac Lane Cottage where my hubby and I lived on a small farm in Kansas with our chickens donkeys horses geese dogs and cats. I haven't visited any of the Blogs I used to follow for a long time so this afternoon I went on my old Blog and checked out the Blogs I followed and saw your post with the pic of your Grandson and his horse. I'm so sorry to read about your husband being in hospice now and that you had an accident and broke your leg...that's a lot to deal with. I'm also sorry to read that you're not living at home while you're getting physio. I hope the docs get done what they need to do and that you heal up quickly so you can get walking again...one step at a time. I love the picture of your Grandson and his horse...it's a beauty! Congrats to him for doing so well showing in English...I showed a few times in Western horsemanship...that was a LONG LONG time ago. It was nice seeing pics of your embroidery projects...the perfect way to fill your time. Take care of yourself and I'll come back and see how you're doing one day soon. :)

I forgot to tell you that we have moved to Arkansas nearly 2 years ago. LOVE living in the "mountains"...which seem like hills to me but I love them anyway. We still have all 3 dogs with us...the cats we left with the new owners of the farm and the chickens we sold some and gave away. The donkeys and horses were sold before we decided to move. I do miss the old farmhouse and all the work we put into it making it our own...but I'm happy here and when it comes down to it...I guess that's all that matters really. :)
