SHOW OFF MONDAY

I am bragging about my 10 year old grandson, who has been taking riding lessons this summer. They had an exhibition for the parents and grandparents to show what they had learned. He won the trophy for his horsemanship knowledge. He competed against older kids when they were doing that part. His other award was showing that he completed Horsemanship I. He is going to continued to take lessons this fall. He demonstrated Western Pleasure, which he had a set pattern that he had to memorize. He really did a good job. His instructor has this palomino and Arabian that she gives lessons on and they are amazing how well they adapt to each of the students. There was 8 students all together.

We have found something that he really likes to do. They have homework just like school and it test their knowledge to how much they know about horses.

It was a very enjoyable evening ending with setting around a fire roasting marshmallows. His instructor only lives approximately 2 miles from them so they can be there in no time.

Sunday Evening

These are some of my latest embroidered tea towels. My August makes me think of fairs, pinics with the lady bugs and bumble bees. I am getting better at putting in my pictures of my work, but I need to take better pictures at times. My Christmas sleigh is to get me in the mood to start my Christmas shopping started early. I always do that so it doesn't seem like it cost that much. Christmas will be here before we are ready. I took on a little bit bigger project that is about half finished. It is a teapot table topper. I think it is really going to look cool when I get it finished . I am learning new things about blogging so I hope this does what I want because work will come early for me on Monday.

I just got some new iron on patterns from my family for my birthday that they found in Branson, Missouri. The boys helped mommy pick them out. I always have more than one project going.

Saturday's Journey

We decided to go for a drive. It was over 360 mile drive and we saw a lot of countryside. We went out to Hamilton, Missouri and turned down highway 13 through Lexington, Warrensburg, turning at Clinton, Missouri going to Warsaw, Missouri . The restaurant on the river was still there that we had ate at a long time ago. We went downtown looking at the shops and their courthouse square. Of course, my camera was at home. We were going to visit a friend that lives outside of Warsaw, but he wasn't able to meet us in town and it didn't appear that his wife wanted company. We didn't push it, We just said that we would try it another time. We crossed Truman lake a couple of different places. There was some beautiful scenery there. We came home through Sedalia, Missouri. This was the last weekend of the state fair. We came up Highway 65 to Chillicothe, Mo Highway 36 to Cameron, Missouri and home. It was a very enjoyable trip, traffic wasn't real bad as the major highways.

We had several different kinds of airplanes at the airport today. Some was going to the air show in Kansas City. We always have a lot of things happening here because they also have schools for flying over in war zones. Some of our guys have been home approximately a week for Afghanistan. We get foreign planes in to go to their school.

We have had rain early in the week, but the weekend has turned off pretty nice for our Trails West Festival. They have had a lot of different entertainers here. It will end tomorrow evening. Their craft vendors are chosen, and juried in if they want to come back the following year. You have to submit pictures of what you do to see if you can get in. Most are out of town crafters. They want so much just to be there and then they want a percentage of your sales. I don't think I would like to do it. To purchase food you had to purchase tickets, and if you don't use them all that is tough luck there is no refund. They thought they weren't being paid properly. The arts group have got a little greedy. The first year it was free admission, but not any more. Taylor Swift performed here before her career really took off.

Wet Monday

Have you ever tried to dry yourself with paper towels after you got soak from the rain? That was my experience this morning when I went to work. It was absolutely pouring and I parked as close to the door as I could get, but the hair came straight from the rain. All of us had wet clothes. I was lucky because I had a sweater in the car which helped a little.

We had rain up until noon and then the sun came out this afternoon. This coming weekend is Trails West, where we have bands, crafts, and food vendors in town for three days. Usually it is hot and where they hold it, and isn't wheel chair friendly. They up the price this year. If you buy the button in advance, it is good all three days, but if you just go for one day it cost more then what the button did and it can only be used that night or day. I just don't understand why they don't move the main events to the civic arena, where it is air-condition and you have seats to set in. Today was a trip to the city for a doctor visit. It didn't make me feel very good after we left. Basically they can't tell us what cause the episode that put him in the hospital for a night for observation. If he has another spell, then we will go from there. Everything was o.k. with the labs, EKG, and the x-rays. I always did say that he like to complicate things a little more.

They were suppose to come today and fix my outside security light. They didn't make it as we are still in the dark. You don't realize how much you miss something until it doesn't work. You can't look out and see what is going on at the moment.

Wednesday is the big day at work. We will have lunch, but I don't know what it will be yet. It is my choice because of it being my birthday. We were going to cook on the grill, but we always have all the free loaders showing up at noon for a free lunch even though it wasn't meant to be that way. I will come up with something more then pizza that is for sure. It is also the day we have to watch out for the school buses as school starts. They are going just long enough for it to qualify for a full day. They had to go to the end of May here in town last year because of snow days so this year they are trying to build in extra days.

My prayers go out to those in the south eastern states and hope they don't have any hurricane damage. Take care.

Sunday Afternoon

Have you ever got your blog all type and lost the whole thing. That is what happen to me earlier today. I was feeling so proud of myself only to lose it all. I took a break and ate supper so I will try again.

We had a downpour, but it didn't last very long. It started yesterday evening raining really hard. I was thankful that we got home before it hit.

I don't like driving in real heavy rain where the visibility is pour. We have stayed in the 80's, but they are forecasting rain for most of the week.

We spent the day yesterday running errands and then taking a drive through the countryside.

One of the interesting things was the Noah Ark decorating the back yard. It had a ramp for the kids to climb to get inside of it. I would really liked to have been able to see it up close. It looked like it would be so much fun for the boys as if they don't have enough things to play with. We enjoyed looking at some of the old houses in Atchison, Kansas. They give guilded tours around the holidays as a fund raiser. I would love to see the inside, but it isn't something we can do unless my husband is having a really good day without using the wheelchair.

The second picture is another tea towel that I finished. I have a set of napkins done, but I haven't taken the pictures yet. I have started a table topper, but it will probably take a little longer to do.

SUMMER IS HERE

Summer has arrived with 90 degree weather and triple digit heat index. We had a storm go through Sunday evening dropping the temperature 14 degrees in a half hour. They had some people without electricity here, but the worse storm was to the north of us. The winds were clocked at 65 miles a hour. They clocked ours at the airport across the river at 50 miles a hour. It is time for school to start and that is usually when the hot weather hits. They will make the kids go to school long enough to make it count as a full day.
I am posting a couple of tea towels. I want your opinion. I want to know which blue birds you like best. The design across the bottom of the towel or the smaller design. I have been busy embroidering this past week to help relieve the stress. I have been told if I am not careful I can get the shingles back. I don't want another bout of those that is for sure. I still have problems with the after effect of the first time.
Birthdays have been big at our house this month and I have another wedding invitation. We have had five wedding invitations, two 50Th wedding anniversary celebration, a surprise birthday party coming up this weekend. We either don't have anything to do or our calendar is full. I just wish they would spread it out.
They have started on the new training facility for the Chiefs football team on our college campus. They are suppose to have camp here starting next year. They say that it will bring us a lot of tourism. We just finished a 14 and under girls National Softball tournament. It was very hot and humid for that one. We have some more sports bringing tournaments to our town. They did start a baseball team back this year so the St. Joseph Mustangs. It was all college age kids with several of our local kids playing. The last home game we had over 4000 attending. They had fireworks every Saturday night after the game. I still think it really helps with the kids helping in the community and having local kids. I need to get back to the set of napkins that I am working on now.

Hot Saturday

Today has been hot and windy. We had such an unusual July with the weather cooler then normal that I think this month is going to more then make up for it. We had 96 today with a 105 heat index. The pollen count is high so the allergies are giving me problems.
We can be thankful that the birthday party was last weekend when it was much nicer. I keep thinking about our son and family. They went to Branson before school starts. I don't know where the summer has gone. It seemed like it just got started. We went to our friends 50Th wedding anniversary. They were so surprised. She had her wedding gown on a form there for everyone to see. It was absolutely beautiful. I saw her daughter who ice skated with our daughter. It was so much fun talking about the good old days as we like to call them.
I have another one of my tea towels done. I have a three ready to put the border on. I had such a stressful week that I spent quite a little time embroidering to help me relax before I would call it a day. Monday, I hope will be back to normal as much as possible. Maybe I can get my work done instead of being down stairs.

I don't know what tomorrow will bring. I will just have to wait and see how hot it is going to be. We may stay pretty close to home in the air conditioning.

A New Week

This is three of the tea towels that I have finished. The sleigh and candy cane are linen tea towels with a tiny green and red stripe. My blue birds are something that I experimented with the design goes clear across the bottom of the towel.
I can't decide which of my blue bird towels I like best. I have been doing quite a little the last few nights because of the stress at work. We are working short handed. It always adds that much pressure and I am trying to finish my year end to go to our accountant to do the taxes. I just take it to that point.

The birthday party. The younger ones are 4 and 5 year old. The older two are ten. They had so much fun and the weather cooperated beautiful so that it could be outside on their back deck. He had all of his pirate decorations.

Sunday was family reunion time. There was five brothers and two sisters there which wasn't bad. There was two sisters and a brother not there. The youngest was 5 weeks and the oldest will be 80 in November. We didn't for some reason have as many. Some were taking a vacation before kids go off to school whether it is college, grade school, or high school. We had someone in each category. It was an enjoyable day.

We had a rain storm go through this morning with lightening and thunder. I watch an impressive lightening show as I was driving to work this morning. I was wondering if it was smart, but it was necessary that I go to work. Have a good week.

Week Almost Over

The week is almost gone and it can't end any to soon for me. It has been a rough week working short handed and trying to do my work that I have to have done for deadlines.

We have had beautiful weather for the month of July. It has been 60's at night and in the 70's in the daytime. Usually it will be very hot, but not so far. We are suppose to have rain this next week which might mean we will slow a little as we are going to be one short. We have a very small crew the way that it is .

Birthday party Saturday evening for our youngest grandson who will be 4 years old. He is my biker. It is a pirate birthday party with decorations. He is singing it's my party. He is such a little character.

My oldest grandson gets to show mom and dad what he has learn from his riding lessons. He is excited because he got to jump yesterday. She teaches them to ride bareback, western saddle, English saddle. She wants them to ride using their body and not relying on a saddle horn to hang on to.

He had already asked if he can do the fall lessons. They have found something that he is really interested in. She makes them do homework and I think that it will help with school work, also.

He was great help with brother while we babysat last Sunday. I rocked little brother to sleep. He told me he didn't need a nap. I told him that was fine we would just read a book and rock. It didn't take to long. Of course big brother had to have his turn. also. We spoil our boys and we would not have it any other way. Our family reunion is, also, this weekend. It will be inside in the air conditioning which is always good because we have to many who have health problems and can't be outside in the heat. There are 10 brothers and sisters. It will be a good size with our children and their children. last year there were 7 brothers and sisters with families there. We always guess how many we think will be there this year.

I must close as I need an early night. It is statement day tomorrow at work and I know that I have over 250 statements to do. Take Care.

CHANGES

I decided to do changes tonight. I changes the avatar and banner of my etsy shop and my blog. I was just in that kind of a mood this evening. The weather has turned off very hot this weekend, but it wasn't suppose to. I think it has something to do with the Tennis tournament that comes to town. It has been hot and stormy for the last three years. It stormed bad enough one year that they had to move it inside.

I went birthday shopping today for my youngest grandson, who has been wanting building blocks. He is having a pirate party with decorations. He wants a pirate cake. I haven't figure out that one because he watches Sponge Bob, Dora and others on television. We haven't watch a pirate show when i have babysat him.

My latest project is just about done. It will be Christmas in August. They are both Christmas tea towels. They were easy to take with me while visiting the doctor's office. We will be doing that quite a bit here until we get things back under control with my husband.

We were visiting with some people while I was getting my car serviced today. It is amazing how many people are a caregiver of a spouse. He was the caregiver for his wife of over 40 years. He does some of the similar things that we do like taking drives looking at the scenery on two lane highways. I would sooner drive on the two lanes because you don't usually have the traffic that you get on the major highways.

We had a fly-in today at our airport by people who were going to the big air show in Wisconsin. The planes were neat and you could tell they had spent many hours in their upkeep .We usually have breakfast on the weekend at the airport restaurant just so that my husband could see the planes. He likes planes and trains. I still would like some day to be able to take a vacation by train. The shows that I have seen on television make the routes really look enjoyable and you see scenery that you can't see by car.

Cool Weather

We have had the most unusual weather for the month of July. It really makes you wonder because the hot weather was in June and this month we have had some cool, cloudy, rainy looking days. We had some rain this morning and it looked as though it was going to a few times this afternoon and evening.

I helped my daughter-in -law and son put corn in the freezer over the weekend. It will really taste good this winter when the snow is on the ground. The best part it was free and all they had to do was go and pick it. The boys helped mom and dad pick it and Matt soon to be 5 thought it was so much fun. Jake, 10, helped by counting the ears that was going in the water, flatten the packages of corn so they would lay flat in the freezer. He had to show me his picture of him riding bareback during one of his riding lessons. He is really enjoying that.

We went for our scenic tour on Sunday. We went out to Chillcothe, Missouri to see the plane that was being restored. They have it done and it is back marking the entrance to the airport. We left there going through some small towns winding our way back to North Kansas City, where we stopped to have a late lunch at Kelso Pizza. It is one of the places that we like to stop and they are reasonably priced. We then came home through Parkville and Weston. It was an enjoyable drive because there wasn't a lot of company.

The hills had such pretty green colors. They have built a new house that sits next to the hills with a wrap around porch that the view would be absolutely beautiful regardless of the time of the year. It isn't a big house and I would really like to see the inside. Some builders are starting to build a nice size house at a reasonable price. It isn't the two story costing mega bucks. People are starting to look for a more economical house.

It is clouding up again so we may get some more rain yet tonight. Everybody take care.

A BOUQUET OF FLOWERS TO MY FRIENDS

I thought I would send a bouquet of flowers out to my friends. It has been a trying time at my house and I have also had some friends going through a rough time. The weather was beautiful today only in the 70's and it is to get down in the 50's tonight. We are to have a nice weekend and then it will be back to the heat again.

Some of my friends know I have been dealing with the after effects of shingles. The pain and burning hasn't gone away and we don't know how long it will take to have it go away.

We had a trip to the hospital with my husband dealing with the heart and today I made a trip to pick up my son who had a chemical asthma attack besides working. Quite a week.

The county fairs are going on and before very long it will be our state fair. My daughter in-laws take their trailer down and spend the week. They always take it as early as possible so that they can get their special parking space.

We will probably take a drive tomorrow for a change of scenery to see some of the countryside. We won't know where we are going. We just go.

We had A10 fighter planes and Apache helicopter at our airport last weekend. They were taking part in an air show north of us. They had some other planes parked there that was really neat. You never know what you are going to see when we go over there to the restaurant for breakfast. I will try to write more later. WORK IN PROGRESS

Two of my latest tea towels. They will be pressed and the final pictures will be taken before I list them in my etsy shop. I have the edges to put on another one and I will soon have five done.

We took time out last night for the 4Th of July celebration at my daughter and son-in-law's house. We sat inside their new garage to eat because of the fine mist that was coming down. It didn't stop anybody from shooting off their night time display which really had some neat ones . You wonder how much was spent. One look like the top of a hot air balloon. How far it floated we don't have any idea. The last time you could see it, it looked the size of my thumb. One of their neighbors shot that one off.

You could watch the fireworks being shot all of the way home. It is amazing the type that we saw. It was 1 A.M. the last time I saw the clock and they were still shooting them off in our neighborhood.

Today we took a drive before it got warm. It is 82 degrees and the temperature will be going back up for the rest of the week. We did have a week of relief from the triple digit heat index.

We went over into Kansas, going to Troy, Atchison, Weston,Missouri, coming home through the scenic rolling hills. Some of the wheat have been harvest and a lot of the crops have finally got planted.

We had our tractor drive for Camp Quality last weekend with 270 tractors participating. It was really awesome to sit along the highway and watch the old tractors go by. We had several states represented. We had a couple of tractors that I had never seen before. Just looking you knew that they had spent a lot of money restoring them.

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July, We have had rain all day and we are in a severe thunderstorm watch for the evening. At least we won't have to worry about the grass being to dry and catch fire.

I have been a little under the weather so I haven't blogged lately like I should. I have been doing a work in progress. I have 4 new tea towels ready for laundry and pressing before going into my etsy shop. I will give you all a sneak peek before I list them.

I was on the road today. I only worked until 11 A.M. . I wish he would have let me have the whole day, but it was o.k. I needed to do some things that I normally do on Saturday, but some of the places will be closed. I don't know what my next project will be because I have been a little under the weather with shingles. They are very painful, can itch, but mine was a burning sensation. I just wish the urgent care would have given me the medicine that my primary care doctor did. It really helped.

I am not positive what we will do the 4th of July. We have been invited to our daughter and son-in-law's in the evening. I need to touch base with them tomorrow . They have been shooting off fireworks since about Wednesday in our neighborhood. Some sound pretty good size. It won't be quiet that is for sure. Hope everyone has a safe and Happy 4th of July.

'Hot weather

I know we are not the only place have really hot weather. Our humidity is so unreal which causes problems with the allergies. It is not a good time to have shingles, which I found out about this week. I have never had anything like them. I remember having chickenpox as a child. I remember telling my mom I just wanted them to go away. I guess I can count myself lucky they are not on my face. The pain is the worse because it is constantly there. I don't want pain pills because they make me unable to function. I have to be able to do whatever because I am a primary caregiver for my husband.
I haven't been able to do some of the things that I normally do, but it has to get better. I have been researching everything I can find on the subject.
So much for that. I wanted to start a new project something that I have never tried before. It is suppose to be really easy, but it will have to wait. I just don't have the energy right now. I fell asleep in the chair last night which is very unusual.
I did get three new tea towels done before all of this happened. I just have to put the border around the edge of them. I will be giving you a peak as soon as I get that done so you can give me your opinion as to what you think of them.

SUMMER IS HERE

Summer is officially here. Father's Day was warm, but nothing like today with the temperature in the 90's and the heat index in the 100's.
Father's Day, we went to our son's for a cookout. We had salad, steak, pocket potatoes, apple crisp, and peach pie. It was all yummy. Of course, we always enjoy seeing the boys. Matt sings when he thinks you don't hear him. His girlfriend is Taylor Swift. If she is on, he just sings along with her.
We picked up a car seat for the week in case of an emergency. Daddy had to go to school for a week for his job. We probably won't need it, but I would rather be safe then sorry.
I don't like the hot weather because I come home with headaches from going in and out of my office which is up stairs. I have to go downstairs into the shop area and then back into air-conditioning. It really tells on you. I drink more water because I will get lectures from all of my kids if I don't.
We did our exploring on Saturday. I didn't find what I was looking for, but we did find some neat shops in the Kansas City area. We found a really neat quilt shop, but I have to get some of my projects done before I take on anything else. We had rain pop up, even some heavy rain, but luckily we didn't have any severe storms. We have been lucky so far lately.
Have you ever stumble on to a web site that was really neat, but you got side-tracked and didn't mark it so now you can't find it. You just get to go hunting again and hope that you found it.

Crazy Weather

We have had crazy weather today. We hit the 90 degree mark with the heat index over 100 degrees. The temperature dropped over 15 degrees with the first round of storms moving through. We just had heavy rain, hail, lightening,and strong winds, but we are still under a tornado watch until 10 P.M. We will have another go around later.

It was pouring down rain as I was leaving work. I felt like I just stepped out of the shower. I normally have a towel in the car, but it wasn't there today when I needed it most. I will make sure there is one in the back seat for future use. You ever tried drying off a little with paper napkins. That was all that I had.

We had a very busy weekend starting on Friday with a trip to the doctors office. Everything went well except hubby's platelets and white count has dropped. If it has dropped more when we go back, then we will start worrying and address the issue. The best part of the day was coming home and having an e-mail from Canada wanting to buy two of my tea towels. I ship free in the United States, but outside I charge postage. She like the last two that I had listed.

Saturday was my 50Th class reunion. The reunion was held out in the country at a restaurant called Country Bistro's. It was really nice using a country theme with farmland all around them. They had a real nice patio and courtyard I guess you would call it. We took the pictures outside, but ate inside. Their business is more into the catering and renting out their building for weddings, family reunions, business meetings, and etc. I got to see people that I hadn't seen since we graduated from school. We had so much fun looking at old year books and talking about the old times, our families, and grandchildren. We were lucky because our school was located on the college campus, so we got to use the college facilities. We got to do things such as swimming, learning to shoot a M-16, playing golf, archery, just to name a few.

They came home from all over the United States for this one. In the fall we will have a reunion for the whole school that is at the same time as the college has their homecoming. They will be honoring our class so hopefully we have a lot that make it back.

Sunday we went to our son and daughter-in-laws for our grandson's 10Th birthday party. He

wanted an ice cream cake. I played ball with the boys in the afternoon. We used a plastic bat and Whipple ball which couldn't go very far. It was fun and a surprise to the boys.

Today at work we lost out power for over two hours because a tree fell on a main line. It wasn't just us, but some of the out lying areas. They couldn't bring us back to fast or they would over load the circuit.

It is starting to lightening again so I better shut down my computer. Have a great day.

Summer is Approaching

A Bouquet of Flowers are a special treat after a trying day. We are in a storm warning until 10 P.M. The rain has started and hopefully that is all that we get. We are suppose to have some cooler weather after in the 90's today and it isn't even summer yet.

We had just begun to get ready to hall lumber to two new houses because the ground had got so they could finish pouring a foundation. One house has a drive that I wouldn't want to have to try to get up in the winter months, but the view will be absolutely beautiful seeing for miles in all directions. The deck will be on three sides of the house. It makes me think in a way of a wrap around porch, where you could set on it with a cup of coffee and watch the sunrise or the other side and watch the sunset. It makes you wonder how some people chooses their lots.

We made a trial run on Sunday to find where one of my husband's doctor is moving his office. It was farther then I thought, and I missed my turn. I thought I was going to get lost and have to back track. I was lucky because in the long run, the street took me to an area I was familiar with. I use to drive it all the time when our daughter was younger taking ice skating lessons. My daughter still talks about one trip where we saw the Dallas Cowboy stadium three times. You can not tell me to go east, west, north or south when I travel. You have to tell me to go so many blocks and then turn right or left. I get turned around otherwise.

We babysat our youngest two grandsons over the weekend and had a really good time. They play really well together and we even got them to take a nap. My daughter-in-law told them they had to lay down and rest after playing in the sprinkler. They didn't have to take a nap. but they did. It make grandma tired just to watch them. They are so much fun.

My daughter had his pictures taken on a Harley Davison bike for little kids. He had a small motorcycle that burned in their garage fire that his dad had found at a garage sale and was waiting for him to get a little older so he could ride it. He will be 4 years old his birthday. His dad has a motorcycle and takes him for a ride. You don't want to say ride because he is right there with his helmet and protective glasses. They got him a new helmet because his was to small. His dad's brother and sister-in-law both have Harley Bikes and they all belong to a group. They took him to the races this last weekend at a dirt track and he absolutely loved it. He stayed awake for the whole thing, but in the last race he was ready to come home about the 8Th lap.

He had gotten his new sand box today and we had to come down to see it. We are going to baby sit him this Saturday which will be a lot of fun. He wasn't ready for his pre-preschool to come to an end because he had other little boys to play with. I just wanted to share his picture with you all.

Holiday Weekend

I thought perhaps I should let you know I am still here. I haven't blog for a few days as I have been busy at the doctor's offices and work. We started the long weekend with closing early, which just means more to do next week. The reports were good at the doctor's. The lab reports came today in the mail, but wasn't anything different then what I was expecting. I can pretty much tell when things are going backwards, but we have dealt with his illness for almost ten years.

I did get another tea towel done so I accomplished something while going back and forth.

We went down to see how the kids new garage was progressing. Our son-in- law was going to paint his new garage doors this weekend so they can install them on Tuesday. They are about ready to pour the concrete floor, and it is really going to be nice. Our daughter is looking forward to be able to park inside this winter so she doesn't have to clean off the snow. He is getting anxious to be able to work again. The doctor is really proud of the progress that he has made since they put his stint in.

We saw up close what a tornado can do. We were in Kirksville, Missouri where the tornado went through. The new houses were in shambles with some in a pile of rubble. To think you work hard to finally get your new home and have it destroy. The important thing is that you can replace a house, but you can't replace a human life. A new car dealership didn't have a window left in their building and damage to the cars. It makes you thankful that we didn't have it. We were looking at the flood damage also. A lot of rivers and small streams were out of their banks. We had flash flooding here in town. It was very unusual to see a car stranded in Star buck's parking lot because of the water. It is in an area which isn't suppose to flood, but with it coming so fast there was no time for it to run off. We watched it rain sideways and the wind was strong.

I don't know where our adventures will takes us the weekend with my having a three day weekend. I just know we will be on the road to somewhere. Have a safe Holiday.
